Creating Lifelong Memories: Summer Camps Program You can play a vital role in making this incredible program a success! When we speak about the military and its heroes, we often speak to military members in uniform, the ones standing for their country and being on the frontlines. But there are other heroes that need to be recognized, the little heroes behind the uniform. The ones adapting to new postings, making new friends, and constantly rolling with the punches of military life. Military children frequently look for ways to connect with their dynamic community, especially with their peers. Support Our Troops has discovered that summer camps provide an enjoyable and impactful means for these children to engage with their community. Every year, military families nationwide can apply for summer camp grants to help alleviate the financial burden of camp attendance. These grants are made possible through the generosity of our donors. We spoke to Myra Anderson who received a camp grant for her children last year, she said, “We chose for our kids to attend the PSP Recreation summer camp at the Military Family Resource Center for the entire summer, as a way to transition into the long deployment of their father. We envisioned them being able to make friends with similar backgrounds, having fun, while advancing their swimming skills by spending so much time in the pool. From the beginning to end of the summer camp process, I was blown away by the level of care and preparedness in how to accommodate limitations and challenges the kids may face. They were met with such support and care, it was really comforting to see them thrive in that environment.” The Summer Camps Program is made possible with the help of our donors.
